God Really Cares

Welcome to the month of June- the month of unexpected miracles!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve found myself reflecting on the goodness of God and a recent experience reminded me of a powerful truth: God really cares. I Pet. 5:7 (NLT) says “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you”. What stands out in this verse is that God doesn’t make a distinction about which cares or worries you should bring to Him — He wants all of them.
If you know me, I’m not exactly someone that likes to spend money on himself, so imagine my dismay a few weeks ago when I realized my perfume was running low and I’d need to replace it soon. Fast forward to this past Sunday- our Thanksgiving service marking my church’s (RCCG DSP Family) 10-year anniversary. As I was about using my perfume while getting ready, I realized I would soon have to spend money to get another perfume and thought, “It is what it is”. While serving outside on Sunday, one of the guests that I’d picked up from the airport (on Friday) told me to see them after service. I thought to myself, maybe God gave her a word for me or she wanted to pray for me. To my surprise, after service I was gifted a new perfume! Isn’t God intentional?

It may seem small — a perfume, not a necessity — but it reminded me that God cares about every detail of our lives.

The Bible has many examples of when God showed how much He cared:

  • Exodus 15 & 16: Despite the Israelites’ complaints, God still provided for them. When they needed water, He supplied it (Ex. 15:24–27). When they needed food, He sent manna and quail (Ex. 16).
  • 1 Kings 19:5–8: After Elijah fled in fear of Jezebel, God didn’t rebuke him. Instead, He sent an angel to feed him — not once, but twice — so Elijah had the strength to continue his journey.
  • Genesis 21:14–19: Hagar, abandoned and wandering in the wilderness, was met by God. He heard her son’s cry and reassured her: “Do not be afraid! God has heard the boy crying… Go to him and comfort him, for I will make a great nation from his descendants.”
That’s the God we serve. Even when we complain, like the Israelites did in Ex. 15 & 16, it didn’t stop God from caring for them. Even when we’re afraid and burnt out (Elijah was asking God to kill him!), God is still there to take care of us. Even when you’ve been abandoned by those you trusted and loved, like Hagar, guess what? God still cares for you. Why? Because He loves us. John 3:16 tells us that God loves us so much that He sent His only son to die for our sins. He cares so much that He knows every strand of hair on our head (Matt. 10:30, Luke 12:7), has plans to ensure you excel in life (Jer. 29:11), and is always ready to take on your cares and worries without making any distinction. As we wrap up the first half of 2025, I charge you to remember this: God really cares for you! You are not insignificant to Him. Take a moment to reflect on the ways you have felt God's care in your life, and let that assurance guide you through the rest of the year.
